I was inspired to create this Linocut after seeing colour photograph by Alessio Mamo. The photograph, published in The Guardian 19-03-2022, shows Ukrainian refugees at the Medyka border crossing in Poland.

I was moved by the tragedy that has devasted Aleppo.
Finally I added Aleppo lettering and a fighter jet laden with missiles and I then wrapped this print around a fibreglass model missile which could be viewed in the round.
I created an aquatint print which, in the foreground, shows a parade of young girls carrying baskets of flower petals. I took reference from a photograph taken of Aleppo in the peaceful sixties. I then placed images of toys and Lego bricks behind the column of youngsters. As you move up the print, the Lego merges into real bricks and then concrete slabs leading to total destruction.
